
Whitney-Howard Lever Action Single Shot Rifle
The overall condition is fair. The cocking mechanism is not fully functional. The mechanism cocks but the trigger does not activate indicating internal wear. The lands and grooves of the bore are visible but pitting and light rust is present. Markings on the barrel are legible. A repair to the lever is present. It has been welded and buffed out. The original single leaf folding rear sight is missing and replaced with a period buckhorn-style sight further up the barrel. The screw holding the stock to the receiver appears to be a replacement.
Manufactured by the Whitney Arms Company in Whitneyville, Connecticut during a production run that spanned between the years of 1866-1870. Serial Number on the lever reads 983.
