He taught at Penn State College, Drake University in Iowa, and Colorado State Teachers College. Richard specialized in landscapes of the Colorado Rockies and Indian Studies such as "Comanche Dancer" at the Hubbell Trading Post Museum which has a number of his paintings on display. His work is also featured in the Smithsonian.
