Through the Pugho Pass - Butterfield Trail by Marjorie Reed
(1915 - 1997). Oil on canvas; 36" x 48". Born in Illinois and raised in Los Angeles, Reed gained reputation for paintings with western themes, particularly Butterfield Overland Stagecoaches and other scenes of cowboys, horses, and figures associated with the Overland Mail Route. A series of 20 paintings of the 1858 route from St. Louis to San Francisco were incorporated in the colorful stage book. Well represented in "Arizona Highways." Reed claimed in a letter to a friend once that she "never painted anything. I just held the brush and God did the work."
