Sweetwater cowboy hat. Early western cowboy hat worn by Bob Franklin of Sweetwater, Texas. Bob died at the age of 96 in 1978. The hat was given to him "used" by his father at the age of 16 (1898). The hat was rebanded in the 1940s. About as much character as they get. No maker's mark. Estimate size 7 which was large for the time, 3 1/2" brim, thicker felt than most.
