Old Northwest Coast Totem Pole
The pole is painted with an all-black ground and red and white painted details. The two-headed creature appears to have two long necks, four legs, and a long tail, perhaps referencing a specific supernatural being from Coast Salish oral history. Although the pole is painted in an unusual style, the finial and high relief carving style are diagnostically Coast Salish from this period. Acquired from the Seahawk Auctions. 22"H x 13"W
PERIOD: Early 20th Century
ORIGIN: Plateau - Salish, Native American
SIZE: 22" H x 13"W
