Lidded Papago Tohono O'odham flared basketry jar. Papago baskets are handcrafted of beargrass, yucca cactus (white or green) and Devil’s Claw (black). The technique used is known as coiling. Split stitch baskets are made of beargrass and sewn with yucca in such a manner that the coil is exposed to form part of the pattern. Made on the Papago Reservation in Southern Arizona, bounded on the east by historic San Xavier Mission on the west by organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. 5" at top x 4 1/2"H
