Buffalo Hunt by Robert Young
Painted 1970s. Oil on canvas; 24" x 36". Robert was born on the Indian reservation in Anadarko, OK of mixed Irish/Comanche heritage. Robert Learned Hand has learned to live in two worlds. Part of each year finds himself writing in the "high country" seeking out older Indians. Learned Hand's Comanche grandfather installed within him a love for horses - the Great Spirit's gift of flight without wings. This enabled him to compete on the rodeo circuit where he was twice national champion and once won the coveted Silver Saddle at Cheyenne.
His Irish grandfather took him to museums and introduced him to the art of Remington & Russell. He had no other desire than to be an artist. Robert has been an illustrator for production companies, ad agencies and publishing house both in New York and California. He has been the art director in Cleveland and has become an accomplished fine artist who guest lectures at seminars and universities. His paintings are in the collection of John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Marty Robins, and many other prominent private, public and corporate collections.
