Late 18th Century Colonial Revolutionary War era hand carved tureen Welsh style spoon or scoop. Folk art decorated. Carved from a single wooden piece. All maple construction. It has an extremely simple carved design on the handle and outer edge of the deep, slightly oval bowl. Original natural dark brown patina overall and on the handle and inside of bowl. Exemplary 18th Century Welsh spoon sometimes called “Marriage Spoons,” folk art decorated with two triangular insets within the handle and five pointed star with a zig zag carved outer design at the edges. The bottom of the bowl has a highly unusual and decorative design meant to show when the scoop is placed down. Museum quality.
